Why be a Girl Scout Volunteer?

Because Volunteers Have More Fun!

Confidence
. Courage.
Character. Every day, hundreds of girls dream of the opportunity to gain these valuable life skills. For over 90 years, Girl Scouts has helped turn girls' dreams into realities. With the help of dedicated adult volunteers, members learn about self-confidence, teamwork and friendship within a nurturing environment.

There's a well-worn sentiment in Girl Scouts, one that's often expressed by volunteers and girl members alike: "In Girl Scouting, I get so much more than I give."

Indeed, the benefits of Girl Scouting are abundant. Some women - and men - say Girl Scouting literally has changed their lives. They've learned, they've shared, and they've grown....

Ways to Volunteer

Girl Scout groups meet in many places, including churches, schools, and community centers right in girls' neighborhoods. And, how frequently girls gather depends entirely on schedules worked out between adults, girls, and families.

No time to lead a troop? No problem! Girl Scout councils are eager for your services. While many volunteers insist that direct contact with girls is the most rewarding, if your busy schedule won't permit that level of involvement, determine how you can donate your time and talent.

Work behind the scenes: arrange trips, supervise cookie sales, or do public relations work, membership support, even bookkeeping. Express an interest in volunteering and watch how fast you're snapped up.

What's in it for you?

In Girl Scouting, we all love the girls! But there are additional benefits to volunteering. Girl Scouting offers tangible and rewarding opportunities to:

  • Network
  • Build public speaking, managerial, financial, and organizational skills
  • Serve as a role model and, at the same time, strengthen your own confidence an sense of self
  • Overcome "empty nest" lethargy. If you're feeling blue because the kids are grown, Girl Scouts may be the perfect outlet for your need to nurture
  • Rejoice in the knowledge that you are helping the next generation of Girl Scouts grow strong, bold, and confident!

How do I become a Volunteer?

Girl Scouts needs volunteers for many roles - large and small. We welcome your commitment of time and energy, however you choose to share it.

Take the next step to becoming a Girl Scout volunteer by contacting us at Girl Scouts of Winema Council at 800-433-9288.

You'll be glad you did!

"I am a Volunteer because Girl Scouts is committed to teaching and building leadership qualities in girls."
