About the Council
Girl Scouts of Winema Council, Inc. was originally chartered
in 1948 under the name of Rogue Valley Area Girl Scout Council.
The Council has grown from several areas to a council which
today encompasses Curry, Josephine, Jackson, Klamath and Lake
counties in southern Oregon , and Del Norte and Siskiyou counties
in northern California. Girl Scouts of Winema Council, Inc.
is one of over 300 councils chartered by Girl Scouts of the
U.S.A. and serves more than 1,700 girls in 200 troops, lead
by 600 volunteers dedicated to Girl Scouting.
As a non-profit corporation in Oregon , a volunteer board of directors, representing a diversity of geographical areas and socioeconomic strata, governs the council.
The Council is autonomous and receives no government funding. Sales of Girl Scout cookies, calendars, and snack items, the annual fund-raising campaign, foundation grants, and United Way agencies financially support the Council. The membership fee of $10 required to join Girl Scouts goes directly to Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. and covers such things as insurance, printed materials, training's, program resources, and program research and development.

"To put yourself in another's place
requires real imagination,
but by doing so each Girl Scout will be able to live among others
happily."
